The Next Migration series:
The demolition of high rise public housing in Chicago began without a clear plan to reintegrate residents into other city neighborhoods and led to residents being re-segregated in disinvested black neighborhoods. This series invites the viewer to think about their own vantage point in relationship to the pattern of public housing in American cities. My own investigation begins with the developments of housing by architects focused on efficiency and standardization of design in Europe that was translated in US cities to warehousing and isolation by race and class.
